| Inquietus is a dark idyll
in memory of Peter Pears, companion-piece to the Ode for his sixtieth
birthday ten years before. In it the obbligato solo instruments
of Britten's Nocturne (except timpani) come forward one by one
without their voice to make successive lamentation or protest,
before a concluding tutti offers resolution without consolation. |
